Getting Organized

Now that the office is taking shape, organizing it is in order!  For too long I have had magazines everywhere as well as other odds and ends in places that didn't make sense.  I knew this chest would come in handy to store some of the random things that are needed in our home.

I am a big fan of lining drawers with pretty papers.  The papers do not have to be scented, but if they are, then all the better.  A while back, I lined my closet with pretty paper and had three pieces left - exactly what I needed to line the drawers of the new-to-me chest.

I like to keep candles and votives handy so I put them in the top drawer along with my growing collection of Scentsy fragrances.

There is also room for those off season pillows, pillow covers, and extra fabric.

Over in the corner there is an armoire that houses lots of other items.  The boys' hats & gloves are held in the paisley containers.

I'm not sure when we should call hoarders, but yesterday I re-organized my magazine collection.  Even with all of the great sites like pinterest you would think that I could part with the magazines, but I cannot!  I mean what if the power goes out or something?  Sheesh!

One last bit of organizing...the boy corner!

I decided to move this little cabinet in to help with the hoarded magazines school supplies and client files.  The boxes came from IKEA and the Container Store striped bins came from Goodwill for $1 each!

I feel like I can finally relax and work in this room without the visual distractions and lack of organization.

Today, I am joining my friend Courtney from the blog, A Thoughtful Place.  Follow me there to learn more ways about organizing small spaces.

  8. I love your organized space. I always have such a hard time with organization. Not sure why. Guess its hard to let go of our stuff. I know what you mean about magazines. I got so frustrated with mine yesterday. They were everywhere on tables, under tables, in baskets. OMG. I really dont even look at them.So I got the ones that I didnt want, recycled some, and dropped some off at my doctors office. Felt wonderful to declutter. I just kept my special decorating issues. My house looks better already!

  9. It looks so great Rene. Being organized makes me a happier woman. It seems the older I get I want everything more simple and more organized. We stock up on those Ikea tea lights, too.

  10. I need a chest like that to hide my stuff. For things that you've shown, candles and other misc items. I think a trip to IKEA is also in order because I need more magazines files too. I cannot part with my mags either. I've gone back to the older ones and started going through them and trying to pin things that I otherwise would've saved the magazine for. It looks great Rene - very organized.

  12. I am loving this room! And I really like how you organized your magazines -- I think I am going to have to do something like that. I can't part with mine, either -- I just keep buying more and more. I'm sure my husband thinks I'm crazy but you are so right -- what if my computer doesn't work at some point?! ;-)

  13. Rene, happy to be catching up with your blog again--the fall has really been flying by for me! This post is such inspiration. Your level of organization is something to aspire to. I have a stack of magazines so high in my bedroom I barely have to reach down to pull one off the top when I'm in bed! And you have done it all so beautifully too. Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas yet again.
